road runners

River Road Swim Club has a "competitive" swim team with a wide range of swimmers in both age and ability!  The Road Runners compete in the Northern Brandywine Swim League (NBSL), an eighteen team league comprised of the various pools in the North Wilmington area. Our "small but mighty" team has adopted the motto "much more than swimming" due to the tight knit group of swimmers from ages four to eighteen years old.  While the emphasis is on fun and complete development of the swimmer, last season, the Road Runners were well represented at the end of season Invitational and Classic Meets with multiple swimmers earning top place finishes among other pools.  If you have a child ages four to eighteen years old regardless of ability, we strongly encourage you to sign up to be a Road Runner.  We can all but guarantee that you and your child will have a very fulfilling experience.  If you have any questions about joining the team (it's never too late) or any other swim team related questions, please contact our NBSL Representative, Melissa Salvatore via email at riverroadswimteam@yahoo.com.

MEET THE STAFF

The River Road Swim Club Staff is lead by Doug Jumps.  Doug has been the pool manager since before the written language.  His friendly and approachable nature sets the tone for the ten lifeguards at RRSC.   There are always a minimum of two lifeguards on duty throughout the entire day.  All guards are certified in CPR and have taken the requisite lifeguard training.  Pictured from left to right, top to bottom are: Doug, Chris, Nina, Becca, Garrett, Hope, Jordan, Sara, Kylie, Brendan, and Cameron.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do i schedule a party!?

We would love to have you celebrate your special occasion with us!  If your celebration will include more than eight (8) guests, please contact Terry Myers at 302-345-8512.  We will reserve picnic tables and tents in the grassy area for your guests. The cost is five dollars per guest and children ages three and under are free!  Payment is due on the day of the party.  Since the pool will still be open to all other RRSC members, we will only book one party per day and parties are booked on a first come first served basis.  Party hosts are responsible for guest behavior while at the pool and all attending are expected to follow pool rules.  Party reservations are accepted for active River Road Swim Club members.

Where do i go when we have swim meets?

River Road is closed to members for our home swim meets beginning at 5pm (three days in the summer), so first, we hope that if you have a child age four to eighteen, that you would be joining us at the meets! If that doesn't work for you, we hope you would cheer on our RoadRunners during the meet.  But if it's hot and you want to get cool, you are welcomed free of charge at our opponents pool!  You are granted free use of all facilities!  River Road is closed on 6/22 (Fair Blue), 6/27 (High Point), and 7/13 (Timberlane).

Does river road offer swim lessons?

Absolutely!  We love empowering young people by helping them learn the life-long skill of swimming! We also know that swimming will absolutely enhance the overall experience at RRSC. Swim lessons are done by our swim coaches and lifeguards and can be conveniently scheduled during the week or weekend.

What are munchkin Mornings?!

All River Road Members with children aged six and under can come to the club and splash in the baby pool from 9am to 11am, Monday through Friday.  The Snack Shack is closed, so we encourage families to bring their own treats and beverages for Munchkin Mornings. The main pool opens at noon.

Pool Rules

Safety is paramount at River Road with fun being a very close second!  In order to keep all who enter the River Road facility safe, pool rules must be followed.  River Road Staff reserves the right to remove persons from the pool or facility should they present ANY sort of safety concern for the River Road Swim Club Community.  Please adhere to the following basic rules:

  • All children should be supervised.  Non-swimmers should never be more than an arm's length away from the adult responsible for the child.
  • The Baby Pool is for children age 6 and under. Swim diapers are required for children who are not potty trained.
  • No running on the Pool Deck.
  • Glass containers are not permitted.
  • Respect the authority of the Lifeguards.
  • Respect other pool members and guests.
  • One person at a time on the diving board.
  • No horseplay, roughhousing, fighting, or profanity.
  • No rafts or inflatibles except on designated raft nights.
  • Water guns must be kept in the pool and should not be pointed at grownups (unless they ask for it!).
  • Lifeguards reserve the right to “bench” or “suspend” for inappropriate behavior.
  • No socializing with the Lifeguards while on the guard stand.
